Regeringen beslutade den 6 mars 1997 att ansluta sig till konventionen. Den 23 april 1997 deponerades det svenska anslutningsinstrumentet i Rom. Denna konvention, som är upprättad i ett enda exemplar på danska, engelska, franska, grekiska, iriska, italienska, nederländska, portugisiska, spanska och tyska, vilka alla texter är lika giltiga, skall deponeras i arkiven hos italienska republikens regering, som skall överlämna en bestyrkt kopia till var och en av regeringarna i de övriga signatärstaterna.
