The G overnm ent o f Sweden and the G ov­ ernm ent o f th e F ederative Republic o f Brazil, considering the im portance they attach to further strengthening the relations betw een the tw o countries, d esim us o f prom oting the developm ent of econom ic, industrial and technological co ­ o peration, to th e mutual benefit o f both coun­ tries, recognizing the im portance they attach to such cooperation and to trade and econom ic developm ent, H avé agreed as follows:

A r tid e 1 The C ontracting Parties shall encourage and facilitate econom ic, industrial and tech ­ nological cooperation betw een interested in­ stitutions, organizations, enterprises and othe r parties concerned in the respective coun­ tries.

A r tid e 2 F orm s, m odalities and conditions for co­ operation within the fram ew ork o f this A greem ent shall be negotiated and agreed upon by the institutions, organizations, en ­ terprises and o th e r parties concerned, in accordance with the laws and regulations in the respective countries.

A r tid e 3 The C ontracting Parties shall endeavour to facilitate, to the extent possible, form alities connected with the preparation, contracting and im plem entation o f the cooperative activities referred to in Article 1.

A r tid e 5 The Joint Com m ission shall: a) review econom ic, com m ercial, industrial and technological cooperation betw een Swe­ den and Brazil; b) exchange inform ation and views about subjects falling within its com petence;

c) seek to identify areas o f com m on interest and to prom ote the im plem entation o f specific projects and program s in both countries and in third m arkets, as deem ed appropriate;

d) establish a list o f such areas, to be re vised w henever necessary; e) encourage and facilitate contacts betw een the institutions, organizations, enterprises and o ther parties referred to in A rticle 1; and

f) include in the protocol o f each m eeting appropriate proposals pertaining to the im­ plem entation o f this A greem ent.

Article 6 The Joint Com m ission may also exchange views on the possibilities o f developing bi­ lateral cooperation in o th e r areas o f mutual interest and include in the protocol o f each m eeting appropriate proposals thereon.

Article 7 The Joint Com m ission shall m eet alternately in Sweden and Brazil on dates m utually agreed by the C ontracting P arties.

A rticle 8 1. The C ontracting Parties shall notify each o th er, in writing, th at the procedures constitutionally required for the en try into force o f this A greem ent havé been com plied with in the respective countries. This A gree­ m ent shall en ter into force on the date o f the last notification. 2. M odifications to this A greem ent shall en ter into force following the sam e procedure outlined in paragraph 1 o f this Article.

3. The present A greem ent shall rem ain in force for an indefinite period unless one of the C ontracting Parties term inates it by notifying the o th e r to this effect through diplom atic channels. In this case, the term ination will becom e effective six m onths after the date o f said notification. Done in Brasilia, on the 3rd day o f April 1984, in duplicate, in the Sw edish, Portuguese and English languages, all texts being equally authentic. In the case o f divergence, the English text shall pre vail.
