We havé the honour to refer to the negotiations which havé taken place betw een the Com m unity and the K ingdom o f Sw eden concem ing the arrangem ents applicable in the period from 1 January 1986 to 28 F ebruary 1986 to trade betw een Spain and P ortugal, on the one hand, and Sweden, on the o th er, consequent upon the accession o f Spain and Portugal to the E uropean C om m unities which will take effect on 1 January 1986. As there is a possibility that the adjustm ents to the A greem ents and arrangem ents, including E xchanges o f L etters, existing betw een the E u ro ­ pean E conom ic C om m unity, the M em ber S tates o f the E uropean Coal and Steel Com m unity and the E uropean Coal and Steel Com m unity, on the one hand, and your country, on the o th er, may not havé been concluded by the däte o f accession, we hereby confirm ou r proposal th at we should agree th a t, insofar as th e Com m unity is co ncerned, during the period referred to above the arrangem ents applicable to trade betw een Spain and Portugal, on the one hand, and your country, on the o th er, shall continue to be those w hich apply on this day, w ithout prejudice to the outcom e o f the negotia­ tions in progress. The Kingdom o f Sweden will m aintain in resp ect o f Spain and Portugal the trade arrangem ents w hich apply on this day, w ithout prejudice to the outcom e o f the negotiations in progress. W e should be obliged if you w ould confirm th a t your G overnm ent is in agreem ent with the above. Please accept, Sir, the assurance o f my highest consideration.

M ed hänsyn till att det är möjligt att justeringarna av de avtal och arrangem ang, inbegripet skriftväxlingar, som existerar m ellan E uropeiska ekonom iska gem enskapen, m edlem sstaterna i E uropeiska kol- och stålge­ m enskapen sam t E uropeiska kol- och stålgem enskapen å en a sidan och E rt land å den andra, inte har avslutats vid tidpunkten för anslutningen, bekräftar vi härm ed vårt förslag att vi skulle kom m a överens om att i den utsträckning gem enskapen berörs u nder ovan angivna period skall de arrangem ang som gäller för handeln m ellan Spanien och Portugal å ena sidan och E rt land å den andra fortsättningsvis vara desam m a som gäller idag, oaktat resu ltatet av de pågående förhandlingarna. K onungariket Sverige u p prätthåller för sin del i förhållande till Spanien och Portugal de arrangem ang som gäller idag, oaktat resultatet av de pågående förhandlingarna.
