Regeringen beslutade den 14 novem ber 1991 att underteckna protokol let. P rotokollet undertecknades av Sverige den 19 novem ber 1991. I sam band med undertecknandet avgav Sverige en förklaring enligt artikel 2:2 att Sverige skall m inska sina nationella årliga utsläpp av flyktiga organiska äm nen m ed 30 procent till år 1999 räknat från år 1988. D en 3 decem ber 1992 beslutade regeringen ratificera protokollet. R atifik atio n sin stru m en tet deponerades hos F örenta natio n ern as generalsekreterare den 8 jan u ari 1993.
