Ratifikationsinstrumentet deponerades i New York den 6 december 1971. Konventionen trädde i kraft den 3 januari 1976.

Vid depositionen gjorde Sverige förbehåll mot konventionens art. 7 mom. d) såvitt avser rätten till lön på allmänna helgdagar.
